Description: Perhaps the most significant, sought-after and iconic of all 20th century display items relating to politics and civil rights. 20" x 16" print titled: "Equality. Dinner Given at the White House By President Theodore Roosevelt to Booker T. Washington, October 17th, 1901". Memorializing the first time an African-American was invited to dine with the president at the White House, this event was extremely controversial at the time. It was celebrated by those that believed in equality and civil rights. It was promoted as a negative by anti-civil rights advocates who were detractors of Teddy Roosevelt. The print illustration features TR and Booker T. seated at the dinner table, a painting of Abraham Lincoln hanging on the wall behind them. Published by Royal Picture Gallery of Chicago in 1903. Incredibly rare without condition problems. This Equality print has full margins, problem-free, and is without question one of the finest examples in existence. The last two high grade examples offered at auction sold at heritage auctions in 2017 and 2018 for $5000 and $5250 respectively. Another example (in lesser condition) was offered at Swann Auction Galleries in March 2022 and sold for $6750.
