These were not selections that the submitters had written themselves, but rather favorites that they had read and wanted to nominate for inclusion. As stated in the opening of the book, many of the submissions do not appear in the book because the copyright holders would not give permission. Prizes were awarded to 840 people for their submissions, and the letter that was sent to winners is reproduced in the front of the book. The list of winners is published in the back of the book. Also in the back of the book, are blank pages that the reader was encouraged to use as scrapbook pages to save their own favorite selections. Antique, showing signs of age-related wear.
