The first class of student nurses to graduate from the Physician's & Surgeon's Hospital in 1905 began their training when the hospital opened in 1903. During the month of June, 1978, the Baptist Memorial Hospital System is celebrating the founding of the P&S Hospital and its School of Nursing - the original roots of the current Baptist Memorial Hospital System. Today the Baptist School of Nursing is the oldest hospital operated school in the state. This month 46 student nurses graduated from the Baptist Hospital School and about 1500 nurses have completed their education at the Baptist in the past 75 years. On June 24, the hospital system's School of Nursing Alumni Association will hold its annual homecoming luncheon to honor all past graduates of the School of Nursing.Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches.
