SOLD TO ROBERT McINTOSH SLATER COLORADO UNION PACIFIC RAILWAY VIA RAWLINS WYOMINGBIOGRAPHY: Robert McIntosh was born in 1838 in Canada, of Scottish parents. He went to Chicago, where he became acquainted with J.V. Farwell who, when he undertook his Hahns Peak venture, convinced McIntosh to accompany him to Colorado. McIntosh arrived at Hahns Peak in 1876, and worked as superintendent of the Farwell placer development. McIntosh also ran Farwell’s saw mill, south of Farwell Mountain, and was one of Farwell’s most trusted lieutenants and assistants. In 1877, McIntosh became postmaster at Hahns Peak. He served a brief term as county judge and county commissioner but disliked political life. For a number of years he worked under lease the Poverty Bar placer mines at Hahns Peak. When the mines became exhausted he moved to Slater on the Snake River, where he established a store and for many years raised horses on a large scale. His nicknames included “Old Mac” and “The canny Scot of Snake River.” He was known to be a hospitable, kind man. Here for your consideration is a great vintage item!
