Description: The 2nd Collection of French Company Felix Potin cards were believed to be distributed with candy in the 1908 timeframe. The issue includes over 500 cards of different celebrities, including at least 10 cards related to very early auto racing. The cards are roughly 1.5" x 2.75" and have a blank back. The front of the card is similar to a photo, and the paper stock is thinner than a traditional sports card. This card features Camille du Gast and is in very good condition with no creases. Pictures were taken to assist with the condition and content of the card. Camille du Gast was an accomplished sportswomana balloonist, parachute jumper, fencer, tobogganist, skier, rifle, and pistol shot, horse traineras well as a concert pianist and singer. She attended the 1900 Gordon Bennett Cup and became one of the first women to obtain a driving license. In 1901, she participated in the Paris to Berlin race, becoming only the second woman to participate in an international motor race. She finished 33rd out of 122 participants. In 1904, theBenzfactory team offered du Gast a race seat for theGordon Bennett Cupbecause of her performance in the 1903 ParisMadrid, but by then the French government had barred women from competing in motorsport, citing 'feminine nervousness".
