Description: This is for an original program for the April 19 doubleheader played between the Boston Red Sox and Washington Senators which was held at the Huntingdon Avenue Baseball Grounds in Boston. The Sox would enter their fourth game of the season with a 1-1 record after three games at the Yankees with the season opener ending in a tie. The Washington Senators would enter the game 2-1 after three games against the Athletics with Walter Johnson tossing a one hitter in the opener. The program is impeccably scored for game one of the days doubleheader with future banned Black Sox knuckler Ed Cicotte going the distance tossing a 3 hitter against Frank Oberlin who would pitch a complete game but take the 2-1 loss. Since Oberlin and Cicotte both have penciled “x” ‘s next to their names, along with the great scoring job, its easy to look up that this was the first game of a doubleheader played April 19. The second game of the doubleheader would feature one of those incredible pitching moments in baseball which would feature Smokey Joe Wood taking the hill against Walter Johnson. The game would be a tight 2-2 contest until the eighth inning when Wood would give up two runs allowing the Senators to take a 4-2 lead. Charlie Hall would pitch the ninth to keep the game tight, but Walter Johnson would allow 3 runs and a walk off in the ninth for the loss while trying to complete his second win of the year. A simply amazing program in absolutely amazing condition. This isn’t just a fold over scorecard, but a 20 page program. The cover features a great picture of Boston manager PJ “Patsy” Donovan in his first year with the team. The inside features not just the scorecard but also great advertisements along with a 6 page baseball story. A little something to read when you arrive at the ball park early or between games to pass the time. The program is an amazing look into what the game was like at a time when life was slower.
