Description: 1910 Territory of Hawaii imprint detailing an early (1898) Alaska exploring expedition, presented by a U.S. Army quartermaster in Hawaii who participated in the expedition, and published by the Hawaiian Engineering Association in 1910. An interesting instance of one U.S. territory producing and publishing an account of the exploration of another. [Territory of Hawaii Imprint] Castner, Capt.J. C., Hawaiian Engineering Association... Press Bulletin No. 27. A Historical Topic -- "Exploration in Alaska." Honolulu, T.H.: [Hawaiian Engineering Association], 1910. Octavo. 58 pages plus numerous unnumbered pages of black-and-white photos. Printed wrappers. Ownership signature of Chaplain J.P. O'Keefe. A substantial and dramatic account (at one point Castner notes that his group was starving to death), first presented by the author as an address to the Hawaiian Engineering Association, Dec.9, 1909, chronicling this early U.S. exploration of Southeast Alaska. Illustrated by outstanding photos taken during the expedition. Capt. Castner was the Consulting Quartermaster, United States Army, Hawaii, with a seemingly long station at Wahiawa, Oahu.
