In 1914, Egyptienne Cigarettes accomplished this by introducing the B18 Blankets, a departure from the conventional card format. Instead of paper cards, these flannel 'blankets' were utilized, each measuring 5¼” square and featuring a baseball player's image at the center. The unique square shape aimed to replicate a baseball diamond, evident in the background detailing base paths and bases adorned with small equipment images. On the front of these blankets, you could find the players' names, accompanied by pennants indicating their team and league affiliations. Folded to fit into cigarette packages, these blankets earned their name as many people repurposed these squares, fashioning quilts or blankets. On the Player - Zachariah Davis Wheat (1888-1972) made a significant impact as an MLB left fielder from 1909 to 1927, primarily with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Despite the Dead ball era dominating the early part of his career, Wheat showcased his prowess by hitting over .300 in 14 seasons including a National League-best .335 in 1918. With a notable career batting average of .317, Wheat holds a prominent place in Dodgers history as the all-time franchise leader in hits, doubles, triples, RBI, and total bases. Beyond his batting achievements, he distinguished himself as a stylish and graceful outfielder, leading National League left fielders in putouts seven times and fielding percentage twice.
