Description: Copyright 1914 by R.H. Stearns and Company, this is the stated 3rd Edition published in 1915. It is unclear that the 1st Edition was published in 1914. The copyright page lists the three editions only by month and number of copies. Three editions, 1st thru 3rd, are listed on copyright page. Each had 5000 copies. The first was published "November 25", the second "December 14", and the third, "December 28". So by this, it seems possible that all were published in 1915, which was the date shown on the title page. In any case, this copy is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. Clean tan boards with black letters on title paste-on front cover, clean black lettering on spine paste-on. No interior marks in 144 clean and solidly bound pages. MANY FINE ILLUSTRATIONS ON GLOSSY PLATES, including drawings by Malcolm Fraser and Jacques Reich of the Art Staff of Century Magazine. From the internet: "Apparently the Stearns company issued a Boston guide book, complete with advertising, for years. This year they scrapped the advertising and went with a different format. Includes the following chapters: The Year Eighteen Forty Seven, by William S. Rossiter; Other Days and Ways in Boston and Cambridge, by Thomas Wentworth Higginson; Recollections of Old Boston, by a Boston Lady of the Period; The Old Boston Water Front, by Frank H. Forbes; The Old Rosewood Desk, by Maud Howe Elliott; Advertising in Boston, 1847-1914, by Robert Lincoln O'Brien; Boston as a Shopping City, by Heloise E. Hersey; An Historic Corner, by Walter K. Watkins; Old Boston Banks, by Francis R. Hart." B64
