Description: THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY EARLY TEXTBOOK ON THE SUBJECT OF EVOLUTION. THIS IS THE SECOND BOOK IN THE "THROUGH THE EYE" SERIES. THOUGH THERE IS NO COPYRIGHT DATE, THERE DOES APPEAR TO BE A PRINTING DATE AT THE REAR OF THE BOOK OF JULY 1915 (PHOTO 9) AND I DO KNOW THAT THE FOURTH BOOK IN THE SERIES, WHICH HAD NOT YET BEEN WRITTEN WHEN THIS WAS PUBLISHED, WAS PRINTED IN 1917, SO THAT DATE APPEARS ACCURATE. VERY RARE TO FIND THIS BOOK AND THIS IS THE ONLY COPY I KNOW OF THAT RETAINS THE SPINE COVER, THOUGH THIS COPY DOES HAVE A HEAVILY FADED AND SOMEWHAT TATTERED SPINE COVER (Photo 11). THERE IS CORNER WEAR TO THE BOARDS (Photo 1 & 12) AND FADING TO THE BOTTOM EDGE OF THE FRONT BOARD (Photo 1), LIKELY FROM MOISTURE. THERE IS A RECTANGULAR FAD MARK ON THE REAR BOARD WHERE SOMETHING LIKELY SPENT DECADES ON TOP OF THIS BOOK (Photo 12), PROTECTING THAT AREA FROM THE SUN. INTERIOR IS STRAIGHT UP IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. HEAVY TONING TO THE BLANK END PAPERS (Photo 10) WITH A FEW SMUDGES IN THE BOOK ITSELF. NO WRITING, NO CREASES, NO TEARS NOTED. NO INTERNAL WATER DAMAGE. AGE RELATED PAPER TONING AND SOILING TO EXPOSED PAGE EDGES. Minor splits between the paste downs and end papers but fully stable (Photo 10)Some splitting along the cloth where the spine cover meets the hinges (Photo 1) but all remains attached with some cloth loss to the edges of the spine cover (Photo 11)Rear of book appears to reflect a printing date of July 1915 (Photo 9) and the number "2" may mean a second printing?
