Description: c.1916 Rare Original FramedWORLD WAR I Polish-American Patriotic Wall Hanging Visible Art Size: 19" x 15" / Framed Size: 26" x 22"- Boże Zbaw Polskę - This is a large and very rare piece, all original, in its wooden frame by L.K. Bukowiecki of Chicago, Illinois.The main artwork -- consisting of the coat-of-arms, drapery, crown, etc. and the words "Boże Zbaw Polskę" at the bottom (which means "God Save Poland") was created and sold at the outset of World War I. That is why it shows the copyright date of 1914, when they began producing them. An example of that original/simple wall hanging will come up for sale from time to time.However, the text at the top was included later in the war (1916). Surviving examples of this version are quite rare. The additional text "Pamiątka Zbrodniczego Najazdu Prusaków na Polskę w Roku 1915-1916" means "In Memory of the Criminal Prussian Invasion of Poland in the Years 1915-1916."The artwork is produced by color lithography on canvas. It is professionally mounted in its original all-wood frame with a trailing oak-leaf motif. The original backing and nails are all in place. The original eye-screw hardware is there, and remnants of the cotton string by which it was hung. JUST A BEAUTIFUL, RARE HISTORICAL PIECE FROM WWI [ CONDITION... ] - Beautiful as-found antique estate condition -- from a non-smoking environment.- Age loss/chipping to the frame, but no damage.- Some age issues with the canvas: apparently some moisture incursion at the edges (long ago) and a wavy/wrinkling of the surface, as shown. - No issues with the glass. - Age loss to the backing board at one corner, as shown.- Only a remnant is left of the original hanger cord, but the eye screws are still in place.
