Sheridan, noted war poster artist. 24 pages, profusely illustrated. This copy was printed for M Prager & Company, Seattle. Hart, Schaffner & Marx issued regular catalogues in the early twentieth century and called them Style Books. They weren’t so much clothing catalogues as they were portraits of lifestyle goals. The booklets were illustrated by many of the great golden age illustrators like John E. Sheridan, J.C. Leyendeker, Edward Penfield, Herbert Paus, Leon Gordon and Samuel Nelson Abbott. War time illustrations predominate. Formal wear was discontinued for the duration and the Hart Schaffner Marx factories turned their attention to the order of the day, making officers’ uniforms. They became one of the single largest suppliers of U.S. military uniforms. The publication offers no individual pieces, but rather ensembles, or looks which include military officers uniforms, military sport suits, dress suits, tuxedos, cutaways, Varsity Fifty Five line, Norfolks, belted back & Chesterfield coats, belted back and higher waist jackets, double-breasted and plain sack, all showing the influence of military styling. The models present with sophistication, flawless style, authority and in youth in scenes that reflect the times of those depicted. Last page details the HSM guarantee.
