Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Neat and unique business card from an independent tractor builder/designer based in the small town (and still is a small town) of Cincinnati, Iowa. I would assume the tractor pictured is one he built and designed. During WW1 there were quite a lot of small companies, independent engineers and farmers who manufactured their own tractors. This card is an interesting piece showing evidence of that history. It looks like this particular individual specialized in steam/boiler type tractors as gasoline powered tractors were a more recent invention and not readily available. This does give some indication of the age of this card as gas-powered tractors became the norm during the mid to late 1920s as the Fordson was an attractive affordable option for farmers. Therefore, steam/boiler-based tractors, and this gentleman's business, was soon to become obsolete. Also, he was located on Highway 60 which was renamed Iowa 5. It was Highway 60 from 1920-1968. So, I lean towards this being from the 1920's. Also, the lack of a phone number supports this too. Condition is overall good with it being a neat card with a clear photograph of a tractor he built, card is still square with pretty sharp corners and clear text. It does have a stain on the front probably from an old rubber band, but still not so bad to distract from its appeal. Approx. 3-3/4" x 2-5/8" card made with a sturdy paper material.
