Description: Key date first year of large nickel 5 cent coins!!! Canada is rightly proud to be the largest producer of nickel in the world. For many years, this metal has been highly appreciated in coinage because of the advantages it presents; in addition to being attractive, it resists the harsh tests to which coins are exposed. It was in 1922, when the first large 5 cent coins were put into circulation, that nickel began to be used in the minting of coins in Canada. Previously, nickels were small silver coins that Maritimers called fish scales. The reverse of the first Canadian 5 cent nickel coins is decorated with a very simple design comprising only two maple leaves, the word CANADA, the inscription 5 cents and the year. This design resembles the one that was reproduced in 1920 on the reverse of the small 1 cent coin. Interestingly, the American 5 cent coin, which Americans also refer to as nickel, has never contained more than 25% of this metal. The sample illustrated on the cover is part of the National Currency Collection, Bank of Canada. This rare 1922 Canadian 5 cent coin is a must-have for any coin collector. The coin is circulated and made of nickel with a beautiful natural patina. The obverse side features the portrait of King George V, while the reverse side showcases a large "5" surrounded by a wreath. This high-grade coin has not been certified but bears the certification number N#414 and is part of the KM#29 series. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of Canadian history.
