Description: Nice small metal enamel American Red Cross pin made in 1923 for the Junior (youth between 14-17) Life Saving Corps (LSC). Another version of this was released in 1926 when they changed from being the Life Saving Corps (LSC) to Life Saving Services (LSS). The circle in the center surrounding the cross represented a lifebuoy because the LSC, at that time, had a focus on their young members being instructed in aquatics (lifeguards) and first aid. Great condition - the front has quite an elaborate design for its size (about 3/4"). The issues arise with the back safety pin clasp. It has an unusual hook for the pin to slide under, but it doesn't hold very securely so might not be good to wear on thinner fabric clothes. Also, there is some darkening around the pin which could be just some discoloring on the soldering when first manufactured or was repaired. It’s very secure so I lean towards the latter. The back has the company's name who made these. Hard to make out since so small but appears these were made in Providence, Rhode Island.
