Famous for the "Christy Girl" – a colorful and illustrious successor to the “Gibson Girl”" – Christy is also widely known for his iconic WWI military recruitment and Liberty loan posters, along with his 1940 masterpiece titled “Scene at the Signing of the Constitution of the United Sates. which is installed along the east stairwell of the United States Capital..From the 1920s until the early 1950s, Christy was active as a portrait painter whose sitters included presidents, senators, industrialists, movies stars, and socialites. He painted Lt. Col. Theodore Roosevelt, and Presidents Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry Truman. Other famous people he painted include William Randolph Hearst, the Prince of Wales (Edward the VII), Eddie Rickenbacker, Benito Mussolini, Prince Umberto and Amelia Earhart. He was proclaimed Christy “the most commercially successful U.S. artist by Time Magazine in 1938. Grace Anna Coolidge (January 3, 1879 – July 8, 1957) was the wife of president Calvin Coolidge. She was the first lady of the united States from 1923 to 1929. She was the second lady of the united States from 1921 to 1923. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1902 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching and joint the Clarke Schools for the Hearing and Speech in Northampton Mass. To teach deaf children to communicate by lip reading rather than signing. She met Calvin Coolidge in 1904 and they were married in 1925. Coolidge did not speak out on political issues of the day, including women’s rights. Instead, she dedicated herself to supporting popular causes and organizations, such as the “Red Cross and the “Visiting Nurse Association”. Following the unexpected death of her young teenage son Calvin in 1924 from blood poisoning, she won the sympathy of the country. Unlike previous first ladies, who had withdrawn almost entirely from the public spotlight after personal tragedies, Coolidge resumed her role after a few months.
