Dust jacket exhibits the most wear with moderate loss to tail of paper spine. Dust jacket is presumed to be for Volume II, however, loss at tail of spine included volume number. Vol. II exhibits off-setting to tail of cloth spine, which is why DJ is presumed for Vol. II. Dust jacket exhibits heavy rubbed at hinges (including both flaps' hinges). Heavy toning and off-setting to DJ, causing green paper to lose most of its brightness. Head of paper spine on DJ is chipped - however, corners of DJ remain unclipped (including original price). Light blue cloth boards are lightly scuffed at edges & corners. Paper title labels on spine are intact, but rubbed. Heads and tails of spines collapsed. Both front gutters are beginning to split at frontispieces, binding slightly exposed. Some instances of chipped pages & finger-soiled throughout both text-blocks. No known previous ownership or marginalia. Bindings are intact, but fragile in some places. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. Michael Collins (1890-1922) was an Irish revolutionary, soldier and politician who was a leading figure in the early-20th century struggle for Irish independence. During the War of Independence he was Director of Intelligence of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and a government minister of self-declared Irish Republic. He was then Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Irish Free State from January 1922 and commander-in-chief of the National Army from July until his death in an ambush in August 1922, during the Civil War. Author Béaslaí was the first to reconstruct the secret history of the underground movement, replete with secret societies and bank accounts, spies and assassins, murder mysteries and great escapes. Its not only gripping, but also solid history, based on not only first-hand experience and interviews a well as numerous documents to which Béaslaí was given access by either the family or by the government.
