Tissue guarded Frontispiece and facsimile of frontispiece portrait and title page to the folio of 1681. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper: Edward M Wilson, Emmanuel College, Cambridge 12 viii.53 Legavit DSB Jan 78. On front endpaper is written, also in pencil: Edward Meryon Wilson (1906-77) Derek Stanley Brewer (1923-2008) master of Emmanuel college 1977-1990 A very good copy. No further writing nor marks nor tears. Edward Meryon Wilson, FBA (14 May 1906 – 21 November 1977) was an English Hispanist and bibliographer. He was Cervantes Professor of Spanish at the University of London from 1945 to 1953, and Professor of Spanish at the University of Cambridge from 1953 to 1973. Derek Stanley Brewer (13 July 1923 – 23 October 2008) was a Welsh medieval scholar, author and publisher. Brewer was one of the most recognized Chaucer scholars of modern times—his Chaucer and His World (1978, reissued 2000) "could be said to have started a whole new genre in historical literary biography."[3] He was also the founder in 1972 of an academic press named for him, D. S. Brewer, now Boydell & Brewer, which made a mark publishing scholarly work neglected by the larger presses. A very good set.
