POSTED AT LLOYDS WORLD INSURANCE CENTRE Folks, humbly, I am trying to keep history alive. Following my retirement, I have dedicated my remaining hours to indexing the work of our ancestors. During my research, I discovered that hundreds of our kinfolk lay unfound and unrecognized on some book dealer’s shelf gathering dust. There were many pictorials published – the common ones are listed on Ebay every day but the rarer ones like this one covering one of the most important insurance companies of our time never make it. They are hard to find. Collectors treasure them. I hunt them out cause really the better, untold and rarer stories were published in the rest. Here’s one of the best. Here is a one page illustration of action at the World Insurance Center in London. There are four pictures which are described in detail below. Lloyd’s started in a London coffee house and grew into the largest, most prestigious and respected insuring organization in the world. Fascinating is the picture which shows the famous Lutine bell which was rung one time for bad tidings and two for good news about an overdue ship. The frigate Lutine sank in 1799 with 200 persons and loss of One Million Dollars. The bell was salvaged. If you are an agent for Lloyds, you will want to frame this treasure. Folks, sooner or later – Historians are going to realize that their projects are laying on some dealer’s dusty shelves. If I can contribute to finding one little name or photo of that a long lost project design I have been waiting to find, it’s worth all the time I spend.
