History of Part Acquisition & Details: This is an undamaged, real, original Packard Cormorant Hood Ornament, removed from a 1939 Packard twelve cylinder car in the 1956-1959 time frame by my grandfather, and then placed into dry long term storage, where they were recently found by my father after safely sitting for many years. This part has a patina, consistent with the nuances of a real original, unrestored part, that was on a Packard for 20-25 years before it was removed. The Packard Cormorant, is so iconic for a 1930's (senior) Packard, that for many years the Packard Club named their monthly magazine "The Packard Cormorant". The 1939 Cormorant hood ornament is the "must have" item, for a senior Packard from that era (1932-1939). A "senior" Packard, was the more expensive line, of Packard cars. All twelve cylinder Packards were Sr. cars, regardless of body style. A "junior" Packard, was the lower priced line of cars, 6 cylinder and smaller 8 cylinder cars. Packard twelves ( 12 cylinder cars ) were made 1932-1939. However, in 1932 the Packard twelve was called the "twin six", but had the same engine as a 1933 and later with twelve cylinders. The Packard twelve, with a Cormorant on its hood, is the "Cat's Meow" or the "Bees Knees" of Packards. These hood ornaments were located at the very front, top, of the hood. As the Packard would drive by, you'd always see the beautiful chromed, Cormorant gracefully "leading the way", as a "silent giant," motored by. The twelve cylinder Packards were known for their extremely quiet delivery of power, to an elegant, large, expensive Packard car. The Cormorant hood ornament literally "calls back", to an era when Packard was one of a small group of several makes of cars that were the most expensive, best styled, best built cars of what's known as the "pre WWII" era. The greatest styling decade, ever, for automobiles. The grand and beautiful 1930's. Buy now, make an offer, or message me with any inquiries and add this wonderful piece to your collection today!
