Description: 1940 World Series Game 1 Ticket StubPSA 2 POP 4Looks like an 8 on frontDESCRIPTION: Both authenticated and graded by PSA. POP 4 at PSA 2 with 12 graded higher, with no stub higher than a 5. Fresh grade (September 2024), well after PSA raised their grading standards over the pandemic. This specific example looks much better than the grade because the low grade is due almost entirely to the paper loss on the back, from where the ticket was originally taped to a page in a souvenir album. The front looks fantastic, nice and square with clean edges and corners. If not for that paper loss, this may have been the single highest-graded example. The Tigers won this opening game 7-2, at the Reds' Crosley Field. The Reds went on to win the series in seven games, avenging their loss to the Yankees in the 1939 World Series. Seven HOFers participated here: the Reds' Ernie Lombardi and Bill McKechnie (mgr); the Tigers' Hank Greenberg, Charlie Gehringer, Earl Averill, and Hal Newhouse; and umpire Bill Klem, who was working the last of his record 18 World Series.SHIPPING: Shipped securely in bubble wrap/cardboard via USPS First Class. ** See our other graded Reds tickets. ** WK
