Description: 1942 Press Photo Pigeons Gather Around a "Don't Feed the Pigeons" Sign PHOTO DESCRIPTION: Back side of photo reads as -- Sentenced to death by starvation -- Seattle Wash. --Hundreds of Seattle pigeons that face a sentence of "death by starvation" are shown here as they walk slowly around a sign in downtown Seattle which they do not realize means their doom. The city engineer -- moved by complaints from property owners that the pigeons were messing up the sidewalks and nearby buildings -- put up the sing in a effort to make them desert their favorite eating-spot. The humane society was called in but there seems to be no equipment to trap them.
