Description: Original to the period Vintage WWII photo I just removed from USAAF Combat intelligence officer 1943-1945 large WWII Photo Album He was with the USAAF 435th Troop Carrier Group, 77th Troop Carrier Squadron. This particular photo is from when he was at RAF Welford Airbase near Reading England. As part of the IX Troop Carrier Command's desire to have its C-47 groups commence training with paratroops of the 101st Airborne Division deployed in the Salisbury Plain area, the squadrons of the 435th Troop Carrier Group arrived at RAF Welford on 25 January 1944 from RAF Langar flying C-47s and C-53s They began training for D-day, towing Waco & Airspeed Horsa Gliders. (The scrap book title page has hand lettered OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS ETO USAAF and the 77th TC Sq hand drawn insignia.) Photos in album are from all different sources a intelligence officer was privy to including wire service photos, recon/ bombing runs, restricted photos (including ones he took), official 435th TCG unit photos (some he also took), etc. from his 1990s obit: "As a combat intelligence officer in World War II, he flew on Troop Carrier air missions during the invasions of Normandy, Southern France, Holland and Germany. Recalled to active duty in the Korean Conflict." I have his name and other info for the winning bidder. If info on the back I will have a pic of the back in the listing.
