Description: This is a part of a large manila envelope used to mail a letter from a mailman (MaM 1/c) aboard the USS Providence on November 6, 1945, at the start of its first post-shakedown cruise to Europe. The Providence was a light cruiser that later was converted to a guided missile cruiser, serving until 1980. This 6 x 8 1/2 piece was probably taped to a larger envelope (see the sides). There is only a small piece of tape left on the back. Folded in center, it will be mailed folded in order to void large envelope rate.
