Description: Vintage 1942-1945 photo from USAAF S/Sgt Jack Dashiell Willock WWII Photo Album. He served with the 488th BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON, 340th BOMBARDMENT GROUP. Only a few stateside pages of photos before the 340th BG was sent overseas. SC Feb in 1943, Feb 14 SF, End of Feb Australia, New Zealand, then India, Suez Canal, arrive in North Africa Egypt March 27, 1943. Then all over Italy area till war ends and the 340th heads home in 1945 for new deployment but war ends. Looks like Jack was a aircraft mechanic and or gunner. More research needed. He was born July 26 1912 so older airmen. Enlistment - 7 Apr 1942 - Age: 30 yearsHe already was a Staff Sargent when heading to North Africa in Feb 1943, 11 months after enlistment. Was he in the Army before entering in 1942?. More research needed... Jack also served in the Korean war. Jack was buried at Riverside National Cemetery, CA in 2006. Time line as from what he wrote in album of his travels with 340th Bomb Group.
