Description: PVT. GERALD PAIGE worked at the SUGAMO PRISON, TOKYO, JAPAN. During the war allied spies, captured airmen, etc. were held here. After the war suspected Japanese war criminals were held here pending trial. Cover was mailed 12/21/1948. Pvt. Paige probably told his girlfriend(?) that seven prisoners were to be hung a few days later, Dec. 23. Too bad the letter isn't here. Dozens of prisoners were hung after the afore mentioned men met their fate. Sugamo Prison was operated by the U.S. from 1945-1952, then it was returned to the Japanese. Envelope was rough opened at top, and part of back flap is missing. Cover has usual wear. Shipping includes tracking.
