Description: 1948 Bowman #54 John "Bud" Palmer -- SGC 8.5 Challenging second series card. Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by SGC. Possesses sharp corners, fantastic centering, absolutely brilliant color and white untoned borders (unusual for this issue). A very nice, high-end example with a low population. Among all major grading services only 4 examples have ever been assigned a higher grade than this one (but none in the last eight years). John "Bud" Palmer was the leading scorer and captain on the first New York Knicks team in 1946 and was also one of the early innovators of the jump shot. Some reports even seem to indicate that he invented it, due to his small stature, just prior to attending Princeton University. Flew many perilous B-26 bomber missions during WWII and later become a well-known television and radio broadcaster.
