Description: Exceptionally rare image by Gene Laverne (Buffalo NY) here titled Miss Japan Beautiful, Tura’s frequent promotion during her early days as a dancer. Original postcard dates to the late 1950s or early 1960s and was found in a NYC press file on the film. Clean & bright w/ nothing more than nearly imperceptible corner wear. Born Tura Luna Pascual Yamaguchi (1938-2011) in Hokkaido Japan, her father was a Japanese (Filipino descent) silent film actor & her mother a Native American / Scottish contortionist with circuses. The family immigrated to California when Tura was only four years old. Tura & her father were imprisoned in California’s Manzanar Internment Camp for two years, before reuniting with her mother in Chicago. At the age of 10, Tura was attacked by five men and gang raped on her walk home from school. It was then that her father taught her the aikido & karate for self defense that would later so define her role as Varla in Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!.
