Description: A real blast from the past. A Ration Book (dated 1951-52) measuring 5.43" x 4.25" (or 13.8cm x 10.8cm) and weighing 15.4gm approximately. The book had 28 pages, though some of the pages have boon wholly of partially removed during use. These were issued to individuals during the war so that the items (food in this case) were fairly distributed. These coupons were required in addition to money when making a purchase and goods could only be had subject to availability, thus the coupons did not guarantee a supply but made it more likely to be available. Coupons were marked "meat", "cooking fats", "butter and margarine"," bacon and ham", "sugar" and "spare". Not quite sure what "spare" tasted like but it must have been appreciated in wartime. Rationing did not end in 1945, with the end of the war but continued throughout the forties and well into the fifties. Will send in a large letter. Lots of photos which please see. Many thanks for looking and reading thus far.
