Water - General (Sea Water Distillery). Even though it never rained in Los Angeles again, 100 of these seawater distillation plants would supply 350,000,000 gallons of water a day, according to Peter Jones, a Los Angeles refrigeration consultant. Jones' plant would provide a giant vacuum, into which seawater would be pumped. As it boiled, the steam would be blown off into cooling tubes and condensed into distilled water.
