Description: Vintage unique CHRISTMAS CARD with a HORSE-RACING SANTA CLAUS coming in ahead of the New Year Baby, plus racing greyhounds and creatively-drawn text: “Racing to You with Season’s Greetings, Gladys and Cecil Edwards”; tiny date and signature in one corner, “Gladys Brown, 1952”. Measures 3.5x6 inches. GLADYS BROWN EDWARDS was a noted equine artist best known for her horse sculptures and an authority on the Arabian horse. She worked at the Kellogg Ranch for over a decade and was active in the Arabian horse community. Her husband, CECIL LEROY EDWARDS, was a respected horseman and Quartermaster General of the Pomona Remount Depot, and RACING STEWARD for the Oregon Racing Commission from 1951 until 1959. In 1975 the post of LEGISLATIVE HISTORIAN was created specifically for Edwards, who had a consuming interest in Oregon history and a “treasury of institutional knowledge that stretched back over forty years”.
