Description: 1953 BLEAK HOUSE Charles Dickens Vintage Book With Slipcase & Vintage Book Token 1953 – BLEAK HOUSE By Charles Dickens Vintage Faux Leather Book With Slipcase. Published by The Collins Clear-Type Press in 1953. Printed in Great Britain. It includes used Book Token, dated 1949, with a beautiful design by Joan Milroy (design no. 23). This was found inside the slipcase and may have been used to originally purchase this book. The book has a beautiful frontispiece of Charles Dickens, an introduction by R. Brimley Johnson, all edge green pages, patterned pastedowns and endpapers, together with beveled edges. It is in a very good condition for its age, being over 70 years old. The pages are bright, overall neat, clean, and it has been kept very well over the years. Please see the details of its condition below. It is part of the “Olive Classics” series made by William Collins & Sons (aka Collins Clear-Type Press) during the 1930s and then during the 1950s to 1960s, with the General Editor being G. F. Maine. The original green cardboard slipcase is intact, robust, and in a good state for over 70 years old. There is just light wear, including light creases and light marks. ‘Olive Classics’ is written on both the front and back of the case, together with ‘Exclusive To Boots”. It has protected the dark olive-green faux limp leather cover well, which is in a very good state for its age. The cover is faux leather bound over card and has minimal wear. There are just some light patches of fading and other very light wear. On the spine there is silver lettering and small illustrations. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. Inside, it is also in an overall neat and clean state. The pages are bright for their age. They are overall very clean, neat, and predominantly uncreased. There is only the very occasional very small mark and only light creases on a couple of the pages. Most of the pages are without rips and there is just a pin sized hole near the inner edge of page 7 and overleaf (above the word ‘American’ on page 7) and an extremely small rip at the edge of page 788 and overleaf, which is minimal and does not affect the text. Please see the photos provided. There is no pen or pencil written in this book. The binding is tight, except for a very small and partial crack in the gutter between pages 798 and 799 (see photo). All the pages are secure and there are no missing pages. All 799 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 19 cm by 11.7 cm and 2.6 cm wide, including the slipcase. It weighs approximately 453 grams, including the slipcase. Thank you so much for looking.
