Airplanes - consolidated Vultee. Taking off from General Dynamics Corporation Convair plant in Fort Worth, Texas, on August 14, 1954, was the last globe-spanning B-36 intercontinental bomber to come off the production line. This same bomber is scheduled to return to Fort Worth today to be decommissioned from service as the last B-36 of the Air Force's Strategic Air Command. Following the decommissioning, the aircraft will remain at Amon Carter Field in Fort Worth as a memorial to the many citizens and Air Force personnel of the city who had part in development of the plane.
