This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1954 Press Photo Map of Indochina Showing Hanoi and Trenches at Yen Phu Hanoi, Indochina: French Union troops abandoned and blew up a series of isolated outposts near Hanoi, Indochina (top left), on May 28th, in an emergency regrouping to meet the threat of an all-out Communist offensive believed scheduled for about mid-June. Advance elements of two Communist divisions, attempting to crack the southern defenses of the Red River Delta, drove their "creeping network" of trenches to within 750 feet of the key outpost of Yen Phu (bottom, center). The loss of Yen Phu would open the way for Red attacks on the Phuly and Nam Dinh and on Hanoi itself. The French regrouping effort was expected to make at least one full Division available for a concentrated defense of Hanoi. Red General Giap already has a reported 100,000 communist regulars and guerrillas in the Red River Delta, many of them in the Hanoi-Haiphong area. Photo measures 7.5 x 7.25 inches.
