Oil - Drilling or rigs. This mobile seagoing oil rig, towering 20 stories high and able to drill in 100 feet of water, was commissioned in Beaumont, Texas, today. Rig, built in the Bethlehem Steel Company's Beaumont shipyard, has been leased for drilling in the Gulf of Mexico tidelands. Cylindrical-shaped objects projecting from upper platforms are eight 28-foot steel piles and four 60-inch wide steel access tubes. The piles are driven into the ocean bottom and the platform can be raised or lowered as desired. After drilling the process is reversed, so to facilitate moving to another site.
