This rare early Hofner guitar features hollowbody construction with an arched solid spruce top, maple back and sides, a three-piece maple/beech neck, and a slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard. The Hofner Club guitars are best known for their appearances in the hands of very young British invasion artists including baby-faced Beatles and David Gilmour prior to their success. Featherweight at 4lbs 3oz, this Club 50 has tons of natural resonance on tap, with a warmth and woody bark faithfully captured by the pair of single coil pickups. These pickups are very sweet and smooth-sounding, with plenty of lower midrange heft balanced by singing treble articulation. The simple control layout, and in particular the Rhythm/Solo switch ensure plenty of range, from almost piezo-like snap to rich, bassy sounds that rival humbucker heft. This Club 50 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-52 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
