1960s ARTIC CHAR Card PARKHUST Gum FISH Scarce Canadian Type Pixie Drink

Description: This scarce card is one in a series of 50 cards issued in Canada by PARKHURST PRODUCTS Limited of 11 Wabash Ave Toronto Ontario, ad an insert premium wrapped with their packages of Pixie Brand Drink mix (similar to Kool Aid). The series is NOT listed in Burdicks American Card Catalogue. No guide that I am aware of provide a specific date of issue however after comparing the layout of the back to other cards series issued by Parkhurst (the 1960 Indy 500 Series in Particular) and also comparing the Pixie Wrapper to that on know dated Hockey card series wrappers that Parkhurst issued I speculate that this set was issued in the early 1960’s possibly 1961 or 1962 (thanks again to Bobby Burrell for bringing this to my attention). The front features a stunning image of the featured fish (very Audubon like in it’s quality) and is borderless with a blue background running right to the edges of the card (this blue border chips at the edges very easily making this a fairly condition sensitive set to collect) The back of the card features a fairly detailed description of the fish and were it can be found in Canadian Waters, written in both English and French. The cards make no mention of Parkhurst on the card (a frustrating but fairly common occurrence with Parkhust sets), and the Parkhurst Pixie wrappers do not specifically make mention of Fish cards enclosed only “Trading Cards”. . Luckily several different collectors have un-opened packs which the cards can be seen inside or have actually seen these cards coming out of previously un-opened Pixie wrappers. This card is # 36 in the series. The Card measures 3 5/8 inches by 2 7/16 inches approximately. The card is free from creases with minimal edge chipping (rare for this series) I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the condition for yourself.
