Description: Handsome fold-out 1962 Alaska map brochure, printed more than 58 years ago. This brochure opens to 18" x 16" and includes a map of Alaska's primary roads and ferries. A full panel shows the southeastern division of the Alaska State Ferry System, with service from Prince Rupert, British Columbia, to Skagway. A small inset shows the south-central ferry, with service to Kodiak. The ferry system is described as "soon to be in operation." Today, this ferry system is known as the Alaska Marine Highway or the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) and is operated by the state of Alaska. Its headquarters are in Ketchikan. On the reverse side of the brochure there are descriptions of Alaska's geography, economy, and history, with photographs of Mount Shishaldin, Juneau, a Sitka spruce, an Eskimo ivory carver, a dog team, and a gold dredge.
