Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. Pollution-Growing Population Demands Clean -- A lagoon leak at the Scott Paper Co. mill last fall allowed spent sulphite liquor to trickle along a ditch (right) leading to the Oconto river. Scott patched the lagoon, stopping waste run-off when the river is at low summer ebb. Below, pipes convey Scott's mill wastes to a clarifier which filters out five tons of sludge a day. The new device cost $500,000. --- Red hot chemicals - recovered from waste liquids - flow out of a fiery furnace at the Thilmany mill in Kaukauna. After cooling and restrengthening, they'll be used again in pulp making. Photo measures 8 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 04-24-1966.
