1967 Ampeg SB-12 Portaflex 2-Channel 25-Watt 1x12" Fliptop Guitar Combo 6L6GC

Description: I don't really want to see this one go but here's a good looking a recently serviced Ampeg SB-12 Portaflex Fliptop. I LOOOVE the fliptop amplifiers. I've really been enjoying putting this through its paces. An absolute studio staple since their inception over 60 years ago. The B-15's get most of the hype but their smaller cousin the SB-12 is equally capable of that classic bass tone. While being even more portable! 25 watts via 2x6L6GC power tubes, A pair of 12AX7s and a 5AR4 rectifier. This is just one of the variations of the SB-12. Featuring an auxiliary AC outlet on the back, 6L6GC tubes (as opposed to 7868) and an external 8 ohm speaker jack. Some SB-12s did not have these features. Its not clear as to when Ampeg made the change or if it was a special order thing. You'll see it sporadically in 1967 in earlier and later serial numbers. Based on the serial and component codes number we can date this one to 1967. The black tolex, knobs and gold piped aesthetics are also very indicative as they only appear for around a year on Ampegs. This makes them a little bit more rare. Certainly more appealing aesthetically in my opinion. This was just fully serviced. All electrolytic power supply filter capacitors were replaced with the highest quality materials available. Done neatly and professionally. Having the power supply working properly is imperative to reliability, with an amplifier of this age its quite a necessary service . Power tube bias was checked. The AC power cable was replaced with a properly grounded plug. Other than that the rest of the circuit is original. The transformers are original as well. The light up lucite logo works! By design the speaker signal is connected via the side latches. Eliminating the need for a speaker cable. Crazy design but super cool at the same time. This is still how the amplifier is set up. Just be aware. Latch it tightly! The speaker was replaced with a JBL K120. Good sounding premium speaker for either bass or guitar use. Power tubes are all vintage and well testing, 5AR4, RCA 6L6GC. Mesa 12AX7s in the preamp which are newer production. This amplifier is quite clean for its age. Certainly some signs of use. A some scuffs and marks here and there. A bit around the edges. But this is in above average very good condition. This can be shipped anywhere in the world that UPS can reach.
