Great Britain Crown Jewels ($3 Million Tiara Gets Cleaning Job). Once a year, in a guarded room at the ancient Tower of London, 37-year- old William (Bill) Summers appears for his annual cleaning duty. With a staff of five, including two gold and silver plate polishers, he supervises the cleaning of the assorted crowns, diadems, orbs, scepters, golden staffs, rods, rings and heavy gold plate of the crown jewels of England. Both his parents are doctors, but Bill chose Garrard and company, in 1950, for his career. In 1962, he became the crown jeweler, responsible for all state treasures and present at all state functions when they are brought out. Shown in his workroom, he examines a tiara once owned by the late Princess Mary, the Princess Royal, valued at over 3 million dollars, while other valuable pieces lie before him on a tray.Photo measures 7 x 9inches.
