Log rolling: Lewiston, Idaho - The last freshwater sawlog drive in the U.S. is underway along an 85-mile stretch of the North Fork of Idaho's Clearwater River. This year 51 million board feet of logs will pass a 40-foot diversion tunnel at Dworshak Dam. In the fall the tunnel will be closed to form a reservoir behind the dam. A 32-men "rearing crew" will help the logs along their way to Potlatch Forests company's Lewiston millpond.Photo measures 10.25 x 8inches. Photo is dated 5-6-1971.
