Burke receives his medals This is an original press photo. Presented Posthumously-Mr. and Mrs. John R.Burke, 4643 Merwin, right, received Saturday the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross, medals earned by their son, Warrant Officer Joseph S.Burke during service in Vietnam. A helicopter pilot, he was killed February 15 while trying to evacuated wounded men from a combat area. The Silver Star was awarded for completing a similar mission a month earlier. The presentation was by Maj. Gen. Felix Davis. Pilot's cousin Bernard Burke of Sugar Land, stands center. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 08-08-1971.
