Description: PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION/SHIPPING/RETURN POLICIES CAREFULLY: RARE - 1973 Presentation silver or silver plate medal with ribbon presented to former President of the American Museum of Natural History (NYC) to famed WW1 aviator, politician and early CIA employee F. Trubee Davison (1896-1974) - this 2.5” diameter medal was created for the 100th anniversary of the museum (1869-1969) and bronze versions were available for sale - this looks possibly solid silver or silver plate - not marked but such a special presentation medal to such a luminous person would more that likely be solid silver maybe?? I do not know - the medal is 2.5” wide, 3/16” thick and weights approx. 5.4 oz, so if that helps ascertain the metal content, good - medal in great shape and sold AS-IS - ribbon can be worn around a neck, has some slight wear from age. Whether it’s solid silver or not, this is a rare and great tribute to a famed American and aviator from the Great War. HISTORY of F. Trubee Davison: Trustee of the museum 1923-73 and President 1933-51 - Davison was also a US WW1 Flying Ace and founder of the USA’s first Naval Air Reserve Unit, assistant US Secretary of War, first director of personnel for the CIA, and member of the New York state Assembly - and was on the cover of Time Magazine in 1925.
