A made up set with no limitation numbers to volumes I, II and IV, volume II with Number 153 with the limitation slip loosely inserted, with a signature and blind stamped ownership to the half title. 3,000 sets of this work were printed, which were issued in both the quarter blue rexine variant binding and in full vellum. This is the only collection of Churchill's periodical articles in volume form, as well as including his prefaces and introductions to works by other authors. (Cohen A286; Langworth, p. 355; Woods/ICS A146(b)). Original dark blue quarter rexine, gilt titles to the spine, blue cloth boards, gilt Churchill coat of arms to the front covers, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, blue silk bookmarkers. Bindings square and firm, a little rubbing, vol. I top edge marked, light sunning to vol. IV front cover edges, contents fresh. A very good copy indeed. Edition limited to 2000 copies for the UK and 1000 for the USA. Pagination: Vol I – xxxviii, 492pp; Vol II – xi, [i], 477pp; Vol III – xi, [i], 347pp, Vol IV – xi, [i], 511pp. Provenance: inscription for Cochrane to the half title of Vol II and address ’57 Cavendish Road Stockport” to the half title.
