However, their experience with hardship make up a very important segment in the history of the Church. Not every family experienced hardship, but for many who were less prepared, their suffering was intense. Death came often; in some cases whole families perished. Many times loved ones were buried with a simple service, and at times not even a funeral. After these quick and simple burials, the Saints would move on across the prairie, only to glance back and see wolves robbing the hastily dug and shallow graves. For some, those experiences were too severe a trial; how-ever, large numbers endured and remained faithful to their conviction of Jesus Christ and his gospel.
