Through his art work and her writing, Gary and Bev Stone have dedicated their lives toward saving Idaho and Western history, as well as the Western way of life. They have been actively involved by literally marking the Oregon Trail, helping plan interpretive centers, and participating in preserving important historic sites. They also helped pioneer art from country to city when Garys unique woodcut-art form gained national news in 1975. He has since received international recognition for his work. Washakie(c.1804[1]/1810 February 20, 1900) was a prominent leader of theShoshonepeople during the mid-19th century. He was first mentioned in 1840 in the written record of the Americanfur trapper,Osborne Russell. In 1851, at the urging of trapperJim Bridger, Washakie led a band of Shoshones to the council meetings of theTreaty of Fort Laramie. Essentially from that time until his death, he was considered the head of theEastern Shoshonesby the representatives of the United States government. In 1979, he was inducted into theHall of Great Westernersof theNational Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Ships gently rolled in acid free glassine paper.
