Description: This 1980 Goal Leaders Gare Simmer Stoughton NHL Topps Unscratched Card #161 is the exact item you will receive and has been certified Authentic by REM Fine Collectibles. Daniel Mirl Gare (born May 14, 1954) is a Canadian broadcaster, ice hockey coach and former National Hockey League (NHL) player, most notably of the Buffalo Sabres. During a 13-year professional career, Gare also played for the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers. He was a two-time All-Star right winger who twice scored 50 goals in a season for the Sabres. He was known for his quick wrist shot and status as a small, yet scrappy and fearless player. He holds team records for most goals by a right winger (267), most game-tying goals (21), and fastest goal scored from start of NHL career (0:18 into his debut versus the Boston Bruins on 10 October 1974). In his rookie season of 1974-75, he had 62 points in the regular season and 13 points in the playoffs, as Buffalo went to the Stanley Cup finals. The following year, Gare had 50 goals and 73 points. He had 77 points in 1977-78. In 1979-80, he tied for the league lead with 56 goals and had a career-high 89 points. He then had 85 points the following season. While with the Kings, Charlie Simmer played left wing on the "Triple Crown Line" with Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor, one of the most potent and famed forward lines of the era. Despite injuries costing him significant playing time, Simmer had back-to-back 56-goal seasons and was further named an NHL first team All-Star in 1980 and 1981. In the latter season, Simmer almost accomplished one of hockey's most difficult feats: scoring 50 goals in 50 games. Blaine Stoughton played his major junior career with the Flin Flon Bombers, and was drafted seventh overall by the Penguins in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. Stoughton had an up-and-down stint in the WHA. Often teamed with Rick Dudley and Rich LeDuc on the "LSD" line, Stoughton scored 52 goals for the Cincinnati Stingers in 1976–77. In 1978, he was signed by the New England Whalers, where he played on the third line with Mike Rogers, scoring 19 goals. Stoughton scored at least 50 goals in a season in the NHL twice, at least 40 goals four times, and tied for the league lead with 56 in 1979-80, which is still a franchise record.
