Description: 1981 New York Yankees World Series Black Bat NM-MT condition Condition & Description: American League Champions. NM-MT condition with minor wear. Very nice --- still has the original cellophane wrapping! Beginning in 1934, Hillerich and Bradsby created a series of specially lacquered "black bats" to commemorate the World Series and Division champion from each baseball season. Each ebony bat bears the facsimile signatures of the players (usually in gold) as well as the team name and year. In 1991, due to the rising costs of production and the difficulty of producing high-quality bats in large quantities, Hillerich and Bradsby began to greatly scale back production. As a result, bats from this time period (1991-1998) are much more difficult to find than from other years.
