The many fine paintings in this agreeable show demonstrate that Rise Delmar-Ochsner has come a long way in perfecting her art, and that she can today be classed among this city's most capable and accomplished artists. Her paintings--mostly portraits--on view at International House are products of an intriguing technique and are decorative in the positive sense of the term, hearing a marked resemblance in many cases to works by Matisse. Moreover, the portraits, although stylized in accordance with the artist's technical and decorative aims, communicate a strong sense of the sitters' personalities, and are (one assumes, not knowing the subjects) convincing likenesses to boot.
